Step-by-Step Trade Mark Registration Process: 

Step 1: Search the Trade Mark Database 

Before applying, conduct a trade mark search to ensure your mark is unique and not already registered. 

Step 2: Prepare Your Application:

Complete the Application Form (Form TM1) with details including: 

  • Applicant name and contact info
  • Representation of the trade mark 
  • Classes of goods/services the mark applies to 

Step 3: Submit the Application

Submit your application to the Intellectual Property Office either in person or by mail.

Step 4: Pay the Application Fee

Pay the prescribed fee based on the number of classes included in your application. 

Step 5: Examination & Publication

The IPO examines your application. If accepted, it is published in the Trade Marks Journal for opposition. 

Step 6: Registration & Certificate

If there is no opposition or any opposition is resolved, the trade mark is registered and you will receive a Certificate of Registration.
