Any individual or company wishing to operate a private security firm in Trinidad and Tobago must first be licensed by the Trinidad and Tobago Police Service (TTPS). How to Apply to Operate a Security Firm

The Commissioner of Police has full authority to approve or deny licenses based on vetting procedures and the applicant’s ability to operate ethically and safely.

Step 1: Obtain the Application Form

Visit your nearest police station or the TTPS website to get the application form. 

Step 2: Prepare Supporting Documents 

Gather all required documents, including ID, proof of business registration, and Police Certificate of Character. 

Step 3: Submit the Application 

Deliver the completed form and documents to the police station or the division that handles business licensing. 

Step 4: Undergo Background Checks 

TTPS will conduct background checks on the applicant and any proposed employees. 

Step 5: Await Approval 

Once reviewed and approved by the Commissioner of Police, you will be notified of the outcome. 

Step 6: Receive Your License

If approved, collect your official license and begin operations as a licensed security firm.
