What Is a Firearm User’s License? 

A Firearm User’s License (FUL) grants permission to legally acquire, possess, and carry a firearm in Trinidad and Tobago. Issued by the Trinidad and Tobago Police Service (TTPS), this license is mandatory for individuals who need firearms for personal protection, employment in the security industry, or sporting purposes. 

 

This license is required for citizens aged 25 and over who can demonstrate a valid reason and meet stringent vetting and training criteria.

Applicants must be 25 years or older 

Must demonstrate a legitimate need for a firearm (e.g., self-protection, job-related)

Must pass background checks and psychological evaluation 

Required Documents: 

Completed FUL application form 

National ID, driver’s permit, or passport 

Certificate of Character 

Proof of address 

Two passport-sized photographs 

Character references 

Proof of firearm safety training

How to Apply for a Firearm User’s License

Step 1: Collect the Application Form

Obtain the official Firearm User’s License application form from your nearest police station or division headquarters.

Step 2: Complete the Form and Gather Documents

Fill out the form and attach supporting documents including your ID, Certificate of Character, and proof of training.

Step 3: Submit Your Application

Submit the completed application and documents to the police division where you reside. 

Step 4: Undergo Background and Psychological Checks 

The TTPS will conduct background screening and psychological evaluations to assess eligibility.

Step 5: Await Final Review and Decision

The Commissioner of Police will make the final determination regarding your application. 

Step 6: Collect Your License (If Approved) 

If approved, you’ll be contacted to collect your Firearm User’s License.
