About the Restoration of Trinidad and Tobago Citizenship

The Restoration of Citizenship service is offered by the Immigration Division under the Ministry of National Security of Trinidad and Tobago. This application is for individuals who were once citizens of Trinidad and Tobago and now wish to restore their citizenship under Section 11(2a) of the Citizenship Act (Chap. 1:50). 

Whether you became a citizen of another country, renounced your citizenship, or otherwise lost your status, this service enables eligible individuals to regain their Trinidad and Tobago citizenship through a structured legal process.

Who Should Apply?

This service is intended for: 

Former citizens of Trinidad and Tobago who lost their citizenship. 

Individuals who voluntarily renounced their citizenship. 

Persons holding foreign nationality but previously born in Trinidad and Tobago or with roots in the country.

Application Requirements:

Applicants must submit: 

Three (3) completed copies of the Restoration of Citizenship application form. 

Four (4) identical passport-sized photographs. 

Police Certificate of Character. 

Medical Forms 40 and 40(a), completed and signed. 

Birth Certificate as evidence of birth in Trinidad and Tobago. 

Proof of citizenship from the country of current nationality. 

Full disclosure of any criminal convictions (excluding traffic offences). 

Supporting documents such as former names, marriage/divorce certificates, or evidence of nationality changes if applicable. 

How to Apply for Restoration of Trinidad and Tobago Citizenship

Step 1: Download and Complete the Application Form 

Complete all sections using BLOCK LETTERS and black or blue ink. 

Ensure accuracy and honesty in all responses, especially regarding criminal history or name changes. 

Step 2: Prepare Supporting Documents 

Submit all listed documents, including photos, IDs, and official certificates. 

If applicable, include medical reports and a character certificate. 

Step 3: Include a Statement of Declaration 

Sign the declaration confirming all information is accurate and complete. 

Note: False or misleading statements are punishable by law. 

Step 4: Submit Your Application

Deliver all documents in person to the Immigration Division or the designated submission office. 

Your application will be reviewed by the relevant immigration authorities. 

Step 5: Await a Decision 

The Immigration Division may request additional information or documents during the process.  

You will be notified if your application is approved and your citizenship restored.
