The Home Improvement Subsidy (HIS) is a financial assistance program provided by the Ministry of Housing and Urban Development (MHUD) to help families renovate, repair, and improve their homes. This matching subsidy offers up to TT$20,000 per beneficiary household, focusing on essential home repairs that enhance safety, comfort, and overall living conditions.
The subsidy aims to assist low-income homeowners in upgrading their homes, particularly those needing critical structural improvements, plumbing, roofing, electrical work, and room additions.
To qualify for the Home Improvement Subsidy, applicants must meet the following criteria:
Income Requirement – Household income must not exceed TT$120,000 per year.
Residency Requirement – Applicant must be a citizen or legal resident of Trinidad and Tobago.
Age Requirement – Applicant must be at least 18 years old.
Previous Benefits – Applicant or household members must not have previously received housing subsidies from MHUD or its agencies.

Step 1: Register for the Program
Applicants must be registered in the MHUD’s database of home improvement applicants.
Step 2: Submit Required Documents
Proof of income (must be below TT$120,000 per annum).
Proof of citizenship or residency (National ID or legal resident documentation).
Affidavit stating no prior housing subsidies received.
Proof of property ownership or legal permission to occupy the property.
Certificate of Comfort for qualifying squatters.
Step 3: Home Repair Assessment & Approval
Selected applicants will receive the subsidy to cover the cost of approved home renovations.
Focus is placed on essential repairs that provide maximum safety and health benefits.
