Automatically protect your original creative works with legal coverage.
Copyright is a legal right automatically granted to creators of original works — including literary, artistic, musical, dramatic, photographic, audio-visual, and software-based content. It gives the creator the exclusive right to use, reproduce, distribute, display, and adapt their work.
Unlike patents or trademarks, copyright protection is automatic — no formal registration is required for your work to be protected. However, voluntary registration is strongly encouraged as it provides official proof of ownership and can strengthen your position in legal disputes.
What Can Be Protected:
Books, poems, articles
Paintings, drawings, photographs
Songs, musical compositions, sound recordings
Films, videos, TV shows
Software and apps
Choreographic works and architecture
Benefits of Copyright Protection:
Automatic Legal Rights: Protection begins the moment your work is created and fixed in a tangible form.
Exclusive Control: Decide how your work is used, distributed, or adapted.
Income Opportunities: Monetize your work through licensing, royalties, or sales.
Moral Rights: Maintain the integrity of your work and be recognized as the author.
Proof of Ownership: Voluntary registration provides legal evidence in case of infringement.
Step 1: Prepare Your Work
Ensure your work is original and captured in a tangible form (written, recorded, drawn, etc.).
Step 2: Complete the Application Form:
Fill out the official Copyright Registration Form available from the IPO. Indicate the type of work and provide details about the creator(s) and ownership.
Step 3: Attach Supporting Materials
Submit a copy of the work and any relevant documents, such as publishing agreements or declarations of ownership.
Step 4: Pay the Application Fee
Include the prescribed registration fee with your application.
Step 5: Submit the Application
Deliver your completed application and documents to the Intellectual Property Office in person or by mail.
Step 6: Receive Certificate of Registration
Once processed and approved, you’ll receive an official Certificate of Registration as proof of copyright ownership.
Note: Registration is not mandatory, but it is recommended as legal evidence of ownership in disputes.
Create Freely. Own Fully.
Your work deserves protection. Learn More About Copyright Protection or contact the IPO today to begin the voluntary registration process.
