About Birth Registration

Birth registration is a legal requirement in Trinidad & Tobago and provides your child with an official identity, access to social services, and citizenship rights. The Registrar General’s Civil Registry oversees the registration process, ensuring timely and accurate recording of births.

Services Details

Timely Birth Registration (Within 3 Months) 

To register a birth, parents or guardians must provide the necessary information at the District Registrar’s Office nearest to the place of birth.

Required Documents: 

ID of informant 

Hospital letter/card

Birth certificates of parents

Marriage certificate (if applicable)

Service Hours: Monday – Sunday (All reasonable hours) 

Late Birth Registration (After 3 Months – 1 Year) 

If a birth is registered after three (3) months but within a year, additional documents and fees apply. 

Additional Requirements:

Immunization card 

Payment of fees: $20.00 (District Registrar) + $50.00 (Warden’s Office) 

Affidavits may be required 

Late Birth Registration (After 1 Year) 

For births not registered within a year, additional steps and documents are required. 

Additional Requirements (If Born in a Hospital): 

Letter from the hospital confirming birth details

Statutory declaration explaining the delay

School letter (first attended)

Birth certificates of siblings

Immunization card

Marriage certificate (if applicable)

Additional Requirements (If Born at Home)

Baptismal certificate (if applicable) 

Affidavits from a parent, witness, and a prominent community figure

School letter (confirming date of birth given at entry)

Fees: $25.00 (District Registrar) + $75.00 (Warden’s Office) 

Adding Father’s Name to Birth Certificate 

Parents can apply to add the father’s name to an already registered birth. 

Required Documents: 

Child’s birth certificate

Mother’s marriage certificate (if applicable) 

Valid ID of both parents
