Grants to improve living conditions with home repairs, plumbing, or electrical works.

About the National Social Development Programme 

The NSDP, managed by the Ministry of Social Development and Family Services, provides financial assistance in the form of materials and labor support to help individuals improve their housing infrastructure.

 

The Grants cover minor home repairs, sanitary plumbing improvements, and electrical wiring assistance, ensuring safe and habitable living conditions for those in need. 

Who Qualifies? 

The programme primarily serves: 

Senior citizens

Persons with disabilities

Unemployed individuals

Single-parent households

Victims of disasters

To qualify for NSDP assistance, applicants must meet the following: 

Financial Eligibility: Must meet the Standard Means Test (SMT) (except disaster victims) 

Property Ownership: Must provide proof of ownership or authorization to occupy the property 

Acceptable Ownership Documents: 

  • Land Deed / Certificate of Comfort / Land Tax Receipt 
  • Letter of Authorization from Property Owner 
  • Non-Objection Letter from a Government Agency (if applicable)

MAXIMUM VALUE

Minor House Repair Assistance (MHRA) Grant 

Provides materials for repairing or upgrading dwelling houses.

Up to $15,000 (General) / Up to $20,000 (Disaster-related repairs) 

Sanitary Plumbing Assistance (SPA) Grant 

Provides materials for bathroom and toilet facility upgrades. Covers conversion of outdoor latrines to indoor plumbing. 

Up to $15,000 

House Wiring Assistance (HWA) Grant 

Covers wiring or rewiring of homes to ensure safe and reliable electrical installations. 

Up to $15,000 (Materials Only) / Up to $25,000 (Materials & Labor)

Note: Grants are NOT provided for commercial properties and payments are made directly to suppliers/service providers.

How to Apply

Simple Steps to apply for NSDP Assistance 

Step 1: Check Eligibility

Ensure you meet the financial and property ownership criteria. 

Step 2: Gather Required Documents

Valid National ID & Birth Certificate 

Proof of Address (Recent Utility Bill) 

Proof of Income (Job Letter, Payslip, Bank Statement, NIS Letter) 

Property Ownership Documents 

Quotations for Materials 

Disaster Victims: Fire Report / Letter from Regional Corporation

Step 3: Complete the Standard Means Test (SMT)

Available on the Ministry’s website (required for all non-disaster applicants). 
Final eligibility is verified by Ministry personnel. 

Step 4: Submit Your Application

Visit the NSDP Head Office to apply. 

Step 5: Application Review & Approval

Ministry officials will assess applications and approve funding. 

Step 6: Receive Grant Assistance

 Approved funding is paid directly to suppliers/service providers.
