Earn income and gain experience through seasonal agricultural work in Canada.
The Commonwealth Caribbean Seasonal Agricultural Worker Programme (CCSAWP) is a flagship initiative by the Ministry of Labour to expand employment opportunities for citizens of Trinidad and Tobago.
This programme offers temporary agricultural work on Canadian farms in the provinces of Ontario and Alberta, lasting between six weeks and eight months.
Participants engage in cultivating and harvesting fruits, vegetables, flowers, tobacco, and other crops, as well as working in nurseries and hydroponics. Beyond earning an income, workers gain valuable agricultural knowledge and exposure to foreign practices.
Step 1: Check Eligibility Criteria
Be 21–45 years old.
Have experience or a background in agriculture.
Be physically capable of performing strenuous work (e.g., bending, stooping) in extreme weather conditions.
Pass security checks, a medical examination, and screening interviews.
Step 2: Submit Your Application:
Look out for advertisements in newspapers or online platforms announcing application openings.
Step 3: Prepare for Travel
Once selected, the Farm Programme Unit provides support, including:
Processing Police Certificates of Character and medical examinations.
Assisting with work visa applications.
Briefing on Canadian customs, culture, weather, and work ethic.
Guidance on remittances and preparing for travel.
Step 4: Travel to Canada
The Farm Programme Unit will assist at the airport during departure.
Upon arrival in Canada, workers are welcomed by the Consul (LLB Canada), who offers guidance on complaint procedures and other support.
What types of jobs are available on Canadian farms?
Workers are employed in cultivating and harvesting fruits, vegetables, flowers, tobacco, and more. Opportunities also exist in nurseries and hydroponic greenhouses.
Can women apply for the Farm Programme?
