Community-based Telecentres

The Ministry of Social Development and Family Serviceshas established four multi-purpose community based telecentres that offer free access to computing facilities, training programmes and the Internet. The telecentres provide training in the use of computers and the internet and offer basic to advanced courses in Microsoft Word, Excel, Power Point and Access. Telecentres give citizens access to advanced computers with high-speed internet access. Services such as fax transmission, scanning and photocopying are available in the telecentre business services area, providing micro-entrepreneurs and small businesses with the facilities they need to conduct business. The business services area is also equipped with a conference room that can be used by business persons and community groups who wish to gather to discuss issues relevant to the community.

Can I use the telecentre?

Anyone can use the services provided at the telecentre. People of all ages, particularly students, the unemployed, underprivileged and those who do not have access to computing facilities and the internet are encouraged to use the telecentre.  The telecentre can also be used by small and micro-enterprises, NGOs, CBOs and other community groups.  You just need to fill out a simple registration form and show one form of valid identification (such as an identification card, driver's permit or passport) to get immediate access to all telecentre facilities.
