Antenatal (Pregnancy) Healthcare
Pregnant women must receive special medical care and attention to ensure safe carriage and delivery of their babies. This is referred to as antenatal care. Antenatal care seeks to monitor the health of the pregnant mother and the development of the unborn child. It assists healthcare professionals in predicting possible problems during pregnancy or birth, to enable preventative or treatment measures to be put in place.
How do I access antenatal healthcare?
The Ministry of Health provides antenatal healthcare to all pregnant women, free of cost. Pregnant women should take a referral letter from their private doctor or the results of a pregnancy test (whether done privately or at a healthcare facility) and visit the health facility nearest to where they live. Please note that there is no need to make an appointment, simply visit the health facility at the time appointed for antenatal care.
