Applying to Teacher Training and Development Programmes


Teachers can obtain training in new and emerging technologies and teaching strategies. Available programmes include a Diploma in Education from the University of the West Indies (UWI) and a Technical Teacher Diploma from the University of Trinidad and Tobago (UTT).

 

These training and development programmes are made available through the joint support of the Ministry of Education (MOE) and the Ministry of Tertiary Education and Skills Training.




Can I apply to these programmes?

You can apply to these programmes if you:

  • Are already employed by the Teaching Service Commission.  Please follow the link below for information on how to become a teacher.
  • Are classified as a Teacher 11/111 (with an undergraduate degree) or a Technical Vocational Teacher 1/11 (with Technicians/Craft Diploma).
  • Do not possess any professional qualification in the field of education.

How do I apply to these programmes?

Periodically, UWI and UTT will publish media advertisements that provide information about upcoming training and development programmes.  The Ministry of Education will also circulate this information throughout schools in Trinidad and Tobago.

Eligible teachers should follow the published directions on how to obtain an application form.  Application requirements and deadlines may differ for UWI and UTT, so contact the institution offering the programme for which you want to apply.  However, all teachers must provide the following documentation at the time of application:

  • Birth Certificate with supporting affidavit, if necessary (original and one copy).
  • Proof of identification in the form of a valid Trinidad and Tobago Passport, Driver's Permit or National ID card (original and one copy).
  • Letter of Appointment as a teacher from Teaching Service.

What happens after I apply?

Your application will be reviewed by the institution to which you applied.  You will then be notified, in writing, whether you have been accepted into the programme.

There are no fees associated with applying to the programmes.
