ODPM - Communities Organised and Ready for Emergencies

The ODPM has embarked on a community-based mitigation and education project called C.O.R.E. - Communities Organised and Ready for Emergencies. This public education and community outreach drive was launched on April 30, 2011 in Thick Village, and will continue throughout the country. Flood+ Smart is under the C.O.R.E. programme and focuses on flooding and related hazards in preparation for the upcoming rainy and hurricane seasons.

C.O.R.E. is a partnership between the ODPM, Ministry of Local Government, other government ministries and agencies, as well as non-governmental organisations (NGOs), community-based organisations (CBOs) and the private sector. Together, we will target the highest risk communities throughout Trinidad and Tobago and deliver programmes that will empower and prepare residents.

Building community resilience is crucial to building a resilient nation. C.O.R.E. will incorporate a wide range of topics including information on measures to adopt before, during and after hazard impacts. This initiative is in keeping with a key element of ODPM’s mission to implement pro-active measures to mitigate the impact of the hazards that threaten the people of Trinidad and Tobago.
