Automated Book Return Installed at the Scarborough Library Facility

Following a successful opening in February 2015, the new Scarborough Library Facility continues to introduce new and improved services for the benefit of its patrons. On Friday 13th March 2015, an Automated Book Return console was successfully launched at the facility.

This machine, which functions similar to an automated teller machine (ATM), is located at the main entrance of the facility and allows patrons to return borrowed materials at any time, even outside of library hours.

Senior librarian Helen Johnson said that the installation of this automated book return is another demonstration of how advanced this Library facility is in its class.
“This machine is the first of its kind in the Caribbean and the installation of such in Tobago is one that all Tobagonians can be proud of,” she stated.

Books and other electronic materials can be returned when patrons scan the bar-code on the materials which activates the conveyor belt. A receipt is then produced with the details of the transaction.

The Scarborough Library Facility offers a number of other new, as well as improved services, including computer facilities that cater for the visually impaired, computer literacy classes, online research resources and free Internet and Wi-Fi access.

The Scarborough Library Facility has dedicated spaces for children, young adults, adults, senior citizens and persons with physical disabilities. The library is open to the public Monday to Friday - 8.30am to 6.00pm and Saturday - 8.30am to 2.00pm. Patrons can register online at
