Horticultural Services


The Ministry of Agriculture, Land and Fisheries provides a range of horticultural services to individuals and organisations as part of an ongoing effort to maintain and beautify the environment.  These services include the propagation and sale of quality plants and plant material, indoor and outdoor landscaping and the management of trees on state lands.




Propagation and Sale of Plant Material

Members of the public can purchase plants and plant material for ornamental, medicinal or scientific purposes from:

Opening hours: 8:00 am to 2:00 pm, Monday to Friday, except public holidays.

 

Guided tours and practical sessions on plant propagation, production maintenance and storage are also offered to visitors at the La Pastora Propagation Station.  Guided tours need to be requested six weeks in advance.  The name and address of the applicant, contact information (telephone, fax, email), specific interest area, proposed date, time and number of attendees must be submitted in writing to:

Indoor and Outdoor Landscaping

Schools, Community Based Organisations (CBOs), Faith Based Organisations (FBOs), Non-governmental Organisations (NGOs), government ministries and statutory agencies wishing to enhance the aesthetic value of their living and workspace can utilize the indoor and outdoor landscaping services provided by the Horticultural Services Division of the Ministry of Public Utilities. Written requests should be submitted six weeks in advance of the date on which the service is required to the Director, Horticultural Services Division, at the address above.

 

Long, medium or short-term loans of potted or bagged plants can also be requested from the Horticultural Services Division. Organisations can submit a written request stating their name, contact information, reason for application and anticipated benefit, six weeks in advance of the date on which the service is required, to the Director, Horticultural Services Division.

Management of Trees on State Land

Legal occupants of State land can request tree cutting and maintenance services from the Horticultural Services Division to improve the appearance and health of the trees in their area, and to minimize any potential threat to life, limb and property.

 

The following information is to be provided by the applicant:

  • Name and address of applicant.
  • Contact information.
  • Nature of threat.
  • Location of specimen.
  • Legal title to State land.
  • Assurances regarding disconnection and cable management, management of pests which may inhibit the operations, structural integrity.
  • Any necessary permits for the felling, haulage or milling of trees from the Forestry Division of the Ministry of Public Utilities and the Environment.
  • For environmentally sensitive areas, clearance from the Environmental Management Authority (EMA).

Written requests, including the information listed above, should be submitted no less than six weeks in advance of the date of the commencement of the anticipated works, to the Director, Horticultural Services Division, at the address below.
