OJT - The On-the-Job Training Programme


The On-the-Job Training Programme (OJTP) provides nationals of Trinidad and Tobago between the ages of sixteen (16) to thirty-five (35) with an opportunity to gain practical experience and work based training within organisations in the Republic of Trinidad and Tobago, thereby enabling those nationals to develop the necessary skills and attitudes for their entry into the world of work.  As of May 31st, 2017, the OJTP became a Division of the Ministry of Labour and Small Enterprise Development.




Trainee Application Requirements

Visit the office in your region professionally dressed between the hours of 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. Bring the original and a photocopy of the following documents with you:

  • All academic certificates 
  • Birth certificate
  • National Identification Card 
  • Résumé
  • Utility bill for proof of address (This must be no older than 2 months; if not in the applicant’s name, a letter of authorization and copy of the account holder’s  national ID card are required)

Trainee Stipend Rates

The Programme facilitates the placement of trainees at the following stipend levels according to their qualifications:
 
Level 1 CXC, Craft Level Training $2,750.00
Level 2 CAPE, A Level, Diploma $3,960.00
Level 3 Associate Degree $4,950.00
Level 4 Undergraduate Degree $6,875.00
Level 5 Postgraduate Degree $7,920.00

Training Provider Information

Benefits of the Programme to Training Providers

  • Private sector training providers are reimbursed 60% of the stipend paid to trainees by the organisation. 
  • For public sector training providers and NGOs the OJTP covers the stipend paid to trainees in full. 
  • Organisations would have already invested two years into delivering industry specific training and as such, would have the benefit of a pool of trained professionals from which they can recruit seamlessly.

Registering as a Training Provider

Complete the ‘Employer Registration & Request’ form.

Submit the completed form and the job descriptions for the requested OJTs to the Placement and Marketing Officer II (PMO II) for the region. These documents can be scanned and submitted directly to the PMO II via email or dropped in to one of the OJTP’s satellite offices.  Visit www.molsed.gov.tt for contact information on Placement and Marketing Officers II for geographical regions and the ‘Employer Registration & Request’ form.
