The Tobago Financial Assistance Programme for Tertiary Studies


The Tobago House of Assembly (THA) provides financial assistance for residents of Tobago who experience difficulty covering costs associated with tertiary studies. The activities of the department include the administration of bursaries, grants and scholarships, provision of career and financial guidance and post training placement support.




Who qualifies for assistance?

Applicants must be citizens of Trinidad and Tobago, resident in Tobago and be enrolled in or accepted at an accredited tertiary-level educational institution.

How do I apply?

You must fill out a Financial Assistance Application Form. This form can be collected up at:

You must bring the original and two copies of each of the following first three (3) documents to the Department of Advanced Training and Advisory Services office with your completed application forms. The original copies will be verified and returned to you immediately.

  1. Certificate, Degrees or Diplomas
  2. Birth Certificate
  3. Passport (pages 1-4, 32 and the back cover bearing the photograph of passport holder for old passport or pages 1-4 of new passport).

One (1) copy of the remaining documents along with the originals must be submitted with your application.

  1. Medical Certificate (must not be older than six months).
  2. Curriculum Vitae/Resume
  3. Programme Description/Outline (an official list of courses to complete for the award of the degree, diploma or certificate).
  4. Letter of Statement of Accreditation from the Accreditation Council of Trinidad and Tobago ( Except UWI, UTT, COSTAATT)
  5. Original Transcript from last Institution attended (in cases where students have begun studies, transcript should be from present Institution) and be sent directly to the Tobago House of Assembly by the Institution.
  6. Letter from Institution stating annual cost.
  7. Acceptance Letter from the Institution stating the programme. If currently a student at the Institution, a letter of status, stating the programme being pursued, start date and expected date of completion.
  8. Two recommendations, one should be from the school last/presently attending by the applicant.

The accreditation letter for both local and international institutions must be obtained from the Accreditation Council of Trinidad and Tobago (ACTT).

How long does it take?

The application and approval process may take up to 8 months to be completed. The deadline for submitting applications for each year is May 31, however applications are accepted year round.

The Training Awards Committee will conduct a review of the application after it is submitted. The committee may request an interview with the applicant to obtain more information or clarification. The Training Awards Committee will make a recommendation to the Executive Council of the THA based on the financial need and the expected employability of the applicant relevant to the developmental needs of Tobago. The Executive Council will review the recommendation and make a final decision regarding financial assistance to the applicant. The applicant will then receive notification of the decision in the form of a letter, an email and a telephone call.
